The Redwood Bridge Club is now back home at Redwood and happily playing bridge along with the San Diego Bridge Academy (classes and games) and the Twenty First Century Bridge Club (game on Thursday nights). Bridge is played at Redwood six days a week, almost all day, with only Sunday off.
With the help of an anonymous donor and the San Diego Bridge Academy, our Club raised a grand total of $8,652 for the Alzheimer's Association. The Redwood Bridge Club hosted party bridge in the morning, enjoyed a great lunch catered from BBQ Boss, and provided both a sanctioned 299'er game and an open game of bridge in the afternoon, with an evening bridge game as well. Our partners, the 21st Century Bridge Club who play on Thursday night, also contributed.
We moved back to the Redwood Bridge and it is looking great! Newly painted and safe entrys and exits! The bathrooms have been updated and ever thing looks swell. Come and enjoy some summer bridge.
The Redwood Bridge Club is playing at the Chess Club. Read more about our friendly club in the latest newsletter.
The Redwood Bridge Club Holiday Party 2018 was held on December 8. The luncheon was free to all Redwood Bridge Club members and only $15 to non-member guests. It was catered by Athena Cafe and was greatly
enjoyed. After lunch both an advanced and an intermediate-beginner bridge game was played. The party was a huge success thanks to all the members who helped decorate and setup the tables on Friday night, then again did setup after eating and cleanup for the bridge games.
With the help of an anonymous donor we raised over $11k! More info coming soon!
This year we will again participate in The Longest Day, an annual event endorsed by ACBL to raise money to address the emotional, physical, and mental needs of persons with Alzheimer’s and those who care for them. If you wish to donate to this worthy cause you may do so at this website: Bridge in the Park 2017. You can also bring a donation to the club. Checks must be made payable to "Alzheimer's Association."
Although the temps don't show it, change is in the air at Redwood. Our affiliates, the folks at the San Diego Bridge Academy, are trying out a new ACBL-sanctioned game on Friday mornings at 9:30, and it's being held in Redwood's newly carpeted and redecorated classroom.
And speaking of change, check out our newly landscaped front entrance! Thanks to Onstance Robinson for her design concept and hard work!
Our April newsletter is now available at the club or by clicking on the images below. The lead story is a visit scheduled for May 7 by ACBL's chief executive, Robert Hartman. He will meet with members, speak to the media, and play in one of our sanctioned games that day.
Hartman's visit is part of a national tour to promote The Longest Day, our Alzheimer's fundraising event scheduled for June 20. For more information or to contribute, go to our TLD site: Bridge in the Park. To donate, click on the yellow "Donate" button.
Beginning February 2, all afternoon games -- the ones that used to start at 12:15pm -- will begin at noon. This includes sanctioned and non-sanctioned games, six days a week. The 11am game on Thursday, the evening games, and class times are NOT affected.
The December newsletter is available at the club. It lists our activities for the month:
